Blog Entry: Wednesday, July 02, 2008 The Amazing Shanley Hotel Investigation, Napanoch NY  Category:  Travel and Places Ok folks. Buckle your seatbelts for this blog as i'm about to gush about last weekend's investigation at the Shanley investigation. I was invited by Serenity Moore and Mass Paranormal to join the team and it's guests for a three day weekend at the historical inn and I had the time of my life. Not only is this place chock full of history and stories but it's beautifully restored and active as hell! Traveling the three hours was a treat for me as i'm used to traveling 8-12 to an investigation. The rolling hills of New York with no Walmart in sight gave me the shakes from withdrawal of city life but did give me a pleasant peaceful feeling knowing there was more of a chance of seeing my first tumbleweed and armadillo. Unfortunately we saw none of those in New York. We saw many deer, trees and Starbucks coffee shops. This former home, bordello and now hotel -  has been visted by famous and non-famous people alike, here are some facts about the location: From the late 1800's to the early 1900's the Shanley Hotel  was a summer vacation destination and had been the resting  stop on the railroad for many a weary traveler.   In 1851, it became Hungerford's Hotel,  rending that their hotel was "one of the  most beautiful and commodious public  houses to be found in any section of the  country" Several owners later, Adolgh Wagner, a  popular landlord, bought the hotel in  January of 1887.    On March 18, 1895  trouble came.    A house nearby caught  on fire; it spread to the hotel, burning it  down to the foundation.    Diligently, by  September, the new frame was up    and  in November, it was open to the public  once again..... The Shanley's welcomed everyone, with  entertainment, card and domino  torments, as well as glorious parties  and holding special events.    In 1908 he  added on a bowling alley to the  building along with a billiard room and  Barber Shop..... The rich and famous were also fans of  the Shanleys.    Thomas Edison and  Eleanor Roosevelt were    frequent  guests and close friends.    Cynthia and Salvatore Nicosia    salvaging  it's glorious    salvaging it's glorious memories and  atoning it's noble heritage once again.noble  heritage once again. once again.   The first night began with everyone getting familiar with the giant place, there's a basement chock full of winding rooms, walls that lead to nowhere, crawl spaces and other gooey, buggy and damp things you'd expect in an old basement. The main floor boasts an enormous great room perfect for 'command central' and refreshments, a common place to gather and talk about whatever it is you talk about. The second floor contains beautiful refurbished rooms most with hand painted decorative floors and there are several baths. One bath has a 'human car wash' lol... awesome new shower.   The third floor is exactly in the same condition the rest of the hotel was found in. Untouched. Restoration is in the near future. There's also another wing above the bordello, rooms partially restored. The bordello room itself houses several beds and beautifiul ceiling fans, also in restoration mode.   Evidence review is stil going on with most of us as it was a long weekend. Activities included evp's EVERYWHERE, lots of photos, video, audio, psychic intuition, debunking and even a home-made ouija board for those brave enough to give it a try. Lots of experiments with balls, toys, paper, etc. were conducted all weekend.   Personal experiences were not rare, in fact immediately upon arrival many complained of hearing voices out loud, being touched, told to 'Get Out' or 'Hurry up' (in the bathroom!) and several others. I myself heard a loud "Shannon!" one evening and to my delight Tom from Mass Paranormal also heard it at the same time. Even more delightful, was the recorders that picked up the "Shannon!" evp. Since i've left the establishment, the restless spirit is still asking for me out loud, to the owners of the Shanley. I feel an obligation now, to my new friend, to perhaps pay him another visit in the near future. I have a feeling he will not disappoint.   Photos of 'orbs' were aplenty, and yes, accompanied by debunking lessons of dust and mosquitos when necessary. A visit to the local cemetary brought us tons of bug bites and bats but surprisingly one investigator caught a white apparition playing peek-a-boo around and behind a gravestone with the video camera.   Several women felt touching while sleeping, loud noises could be heard and recorded throughout the nights. My husband's bed was shaking while taking a power nap while he was alone in the famous Marguarite room. The covers were torn off him throughout the night as well. A ball was witnessed rolling down a vacant hallway on the third floor. A ghost named Christopher is rumored to be the culprit. Many murders, suicides and deaths have occurred throughout the years in this building. From a 4 year old named Rosie drowning on the property's well to a hanging suicide.   So to sum everything up, there were boatloads of evp's, too many to mention here, and this is just 'so far'. Evidence came way too easy.   I am NOT being paid or endorsed to say this in any way lol... but I have to say this has been one of the most active locations i've seen in a long while. If you're interested in learning more you can find them at  http://www.shanleyhotel.com . Thank you to everyone who was there at the investigation for being so nice to me, we made a ton of new friends and I look forward to seeing you all again!   (Pics of the investigation are in the Shanley Investigation folder in my pics)   Peace out...   Shannon
