Subject: EVP Newbies
Content: I am very glad to see new people interested in EVP. Still, I see lots of new groups posting EVPs without fully understanding what is being said. I see new folks giving interpretations that are not at all correct. Sometimes they get testy and insistant if corrections are offered. EVP is a language unto itself. I usually listen to an EVP for a minimum of 3-5 minutes per section before I commit myself to an interpretation. During that time, I may amplify it, slow it, or even tone down the volume a bit. I am not always right even under those conditions. I have learned to second guess myself. It is not unusual for different people to hear different things. I understand that and I have been proven wrong on more occaisions than I can count. The problem seems to be that people hear what they want to hear based on history of the area they are in. To them, suicides seem to always have deceased family members about crying and weeping. Mothers who have lost their chilren are always in the background of the grave sobbing for their child. One should pay attention to the history of the area but not define every EVP with that history just because it is known. Not all spirits live in the past. One should approach an EVP session with an open mind and not have it clouded by a wish to connect to history that may have no relevance. You will have better quality interpretations if you listen to the EVP over and over before making conclusions. Above all, when someone offers a different interpretation, it is wise to revisit your recording again. I do. ^v^
