This is just a little info on the picture Im using as the background on my page. Back in my high school days we called this vacant mansion Copples Mansion. I cant tell you why, but thats the only home on that road and the name of the road is Copple Rd. Anyway, back when I was 19 me and my now husband and another friend decided we were brave enough to take a look inside. There was no power in the home so we had to take a flash light. The windows on the bottom floor were missing the glass and someone had nailed up very thin plywood. We loosened an edge to climb through to get in the house. As we proceeded to look around we came to a door that led to the basement. The door knob was wired to a nail as if to keep the door from being opened. As we stood there looking at the door knob it started to turn and the door was pushing as if someone were on the other side trying to come out of the basement. Well needless to say we all took off running for the car. The first person to go out the window had completely kicked the wood off the window and it laid on the floor of the porch as me and my husband climbed through. We didnt touch it we just ran! We got in the car and turned the car around to leave as we did the headlights from the car shone up on the porch of the house and the wood was back up on the house! A few nights later we decided that we wanted to put a tape recorder in the house on the steps leading to the upstairs. (I wouldnt go in the driveway much less in that house again.) I waited out on the road. After retrieving the recorder when it had finished, we listened to the tape. At the beginning you hear us leaving and driving off, then mostly you hear the oil rigs pumping in the fields, a train goes by, then all of a sudden you hear sounds of something like maybe a rocking chair or a walker on the hardwood floors. A few times you hear what sounds to us like someone tapping on the recorder as if it doesnt know what it is. Then everything goes completely quiet and all you hear is the sound of a door slam shut. It was so loud it seemed to echo through out the house. Then nothing no rocking sound no tapping sounds just the oil rigs pumping oil. Let me tell you when that door slammed it scared the H*** out of us as we had the recorder turned up all the way, because we wanted to make sure we didnt miss even the quietest sound. The tape is long gone as I loaned it out to a friend and that was the last I saw of it.
The house over the years has been through several people who tried remodeling. But for some reason it never gets done and its up for sale again. One couple even set up a mobile home on the property to live in while fixing the old home, but before long they were gone as well.
Last winter around october or so my daughter had mentioned a "haunted House" she had heard about when she told me about I told her the stories I had about the place. We went out there and there was a for sale sign up again. I called about it, and asked if they had any info about the house. The stories you grew up with usually arent true, but he told me it was an old plantation and when his daughter bought it, it still had the manicles in the basement walls from where they chained the slaves. The reason she was selling was because she just didnt have the time to work on it, and with the vandels out there messing up the work she did do it just wasnt worth it. Yeah I bet it was vandels....... I know what I saw back in 1986, and there were other friends that have their own stories about the place. Vandels my eye!!!!
