Jamaica Inn 24-Nov-2007
Jamaica Inn

Quote:

Built in 1750, Jamaica Inn was a coaching inn - a bit like our modern day service station. Weary travellers using the turnpike between Launceston and Bodmin would stay at the Inn after having crossed the wild and treacherous moor.
Jamaica Inn was remote and isolated so it was an excellent stopping place on the way to Devon and onward. It is also thought that the Inn may have got its name because it did a considerable trade in rum!
In 1778 the Inn was extended to include a coach house, stables and a tack room creating the l-shaped main part of the building as it is today.
For years there have been many stories of hauntings at Jamaica Inn and recently the Ghost Society has made in-depth investigations and compiled a report based on their findings. The areas of substantial interest to the investigation were, The Smuggler's Bar, The Stable Bar, the restaurant and upstairs in bedroom four.

I arrived at the Inn at 10 to 9 in the evening. Other members had been there for a while and been drinking in the bar; they had already been put into groups. I was in group 3 (of 3 with 9 other people!) 3 of whom had come over from Ireland for the night! We started off by all walking to the near by chapel (to kill time while drinkers were still in the bar. I spoke to the members of my group and found one was a "really" experianced know it all having done the "22 haunted pub hunt in 4 hours". On arriving at the chapel and cemetry I realised what kind of a night i was in for..... I was raining..... yes there were lots of "orbs" in the photos.... the one man.... yes ONE man in charge of the eveing and all 3 groups (totalling about 25 people) was telling everyone who found a "orb" in a photo "you have some thing there!" omg then one of the girls in my group took a long exposure picture without keeping the camera still.... yes you got it the photo blured.... que "oooo very intersting I think you have caught some thing there!! omg shut the F**k up!!! I had my photos from Borigdon and Preston Manor still on my memory card so i showed them some similar photos i have managed to take by accident..... nope they werent convince.... i even took one and made it bury for them to prove my point.... NO they were convinced they had some thing. ffs!
Yes this is a sign of things to come!
Talking to the Mother of the 3 from Ireland at least i managed to convince her that Derek is a fake... something acheived for the night at least.  I also had a chat to the man in charge on the walk back to the Inn (Rich) he was tellingme about his investigation at Bodmin! He said "you know that cell down in the basement where that woman killed her baby? well i had a strange feeling walking past that cell with my little 6mt old son". I didnt have the heart to break his litle fantasy that he had been in contact with the woman that killed her baby in that cell..... urmm there is a sign on the wall out side of the cell telling the story of a woman who was convicted because she killed her baby; she was later hung at the gaol. She wasnt kept in that cell and she didnt kill the baby at the gaol; infact none of the signs in the gaol are outside of any of the cells where the actual people where held; these records dont exsist! but he was convinced!... a sign of the auto suggestion to come me thinks
Back at the Inn sitting in the restaurant area flicking through my photos the only thing i had managed to get was wet feet!

Before the group could do any investigating Rich let each group off at a time to the museum to do the protection ritual!  one by one each person had to hold a bunch of burning sage; waving it around their had reading a passage; to give that person protection.... needless to say i couldnt be bothered with that C**p and after everyone had done the little ritual the vigils started 45mins late!

Vigil 1 - Museum Area
As we were group 3 we where last to be taken to our vigil (rich had to organise the others first!) We were lead in and he turned the lights out.... we were told NO cameras or Torchs for the first 10 or so minutes..... it was pitch black no light source at all... so it was a case of hold the person in front and feel with the other hand for the walls! hummm health and safety eat your heart out! As soon as we were left by Rich i thought it was going to be a repeat of Boringdon Hall with the ywo young Girls in my group..... mobile phones started ringing and they wouldnt shut up! arghhhh i decided to bugger um and go back the way i came to do some stuff on my own! I called out.... nothing at all it was flat.
After 20 mins Rich came back and lead us to another part of the museum; telling us that there is a little girl in that area and she always does something for people. I heard a few faint tapps on and off and one time when i asked form some one to whistle back one of the cabinets in the room creaked the same tune!
Rich returned for the 3rd or 4th time and brought ouijui board No 1 to us! I joined the board with 3 others and the little girl (patsy) came through the glass moved very fast and definate. She said she was sitting one place near the board and one of the irish girls beside me said she saw a shadow in that spot 4 of us picked up our cameras and took some photos of that area we all got orbs... i shall post mine! Which was strange!

Between vigils on a break i decided to go and take some photos outside... thats when i caught an interesting wispy sort of thing on a photo near the front door... which was wierd... i shall post later!

Vigil 2 - Bedrooms 3, 4, 5 & 6
Yep 4 bedrooms to investiagte in 35mins/ hour!!! We started as a whole group in room 4; Jack Trevellis is the resident spook in this room; long green cloak and a tricorn hat; he was apparently a smuggler. The room was comfortable and after trying to call out for a few minutes me and the Irish ladies moved rooms as the other ladies decided they wanted slience!
Room 5 this is the bedroom where in Most Haunted Yvette and Tom saw the face of a women in the mirror and Ian Lawman did a clearing for them. This room was quiet as well. Only thing i can report is that i was freeezing; boiling hot and then freezing again. The two girls decided that they could see a face in a blured photo they took ... which resulted in them screaming and leaving the room!
Room 6 apparently faces are caught in photos in this room; Rich joined us.... v quiet... nothing to report.
Room 3 Rich told a story of how a group ONCE experianced a young girl in visitation in this room .... she was recognised by the smell of burning hair. Auto suggestion implanted...... surprise one of the girls had a tickly nose and could smell smoke.... and bigger surprise... so could Rich  i just cracked up laughing and had to leave the room!
Cue ouiji board No 2! I swear the ouiji boards where mating and multiplying like rabbits!
In room 4 me, Rich and the two young girls sat at the board we called out and it glass didnt move.... BUT the floor tapped under my foot a few time like when i was at the LLandoger Trow.... and i have to say.... it shit me up! I wasnt a happy bunny at all!
Cue ouiji board No 3 as the bedroom vigils ended early and we were lead down to the restaurant area!!  After being told for the umpteenth time that Jack kept coming through on the board in that area.. in the museum and reception ooo and the bedroom.... surprise Jack came through! and tbh i cant be asses to explain it..... but it was a ouiji board session.... end of!

Vigil 3 - Restaurant/ Pedlers bar and Reception (was generator room)
Vigil 3 kinda merged in with vigil 2 as we were taken to do the ouiji board during our time we should have been in the bedrooms. Actually all vigils tended to merge together as there was NO organisation and people were just wondering around doing every they wanted any way!!! Not that im annoyed or anything!!!!
"lets go to the recepetion" said Rich..... Cue ouiji board No 4 !!!!!
oooh and guess what Jack was there to greet us! um pardon me or do you think there were a few too many ouiji boards? omfg!!!

I had almost left at about 2am when things were just going from rediculous to completly pathetic but i decided to wait it out! At 3am ish i abandoned to group and went outside to take some photos of the exterior while everyone else was indoors doing vigils. i was outside for about 10mins and it was a really calm clear night... I havent a clue where it came from but i heard what sounded like piccalo (sort of a cross between a penny whistle and a flute) playing a tune... it wasnt the cables from the flags or signs as i could hear them seperatly and there was a definate tune which lasted about 30seconds... i checked with some staff later on and they dont know of any reported music.

It was after this point i kind of gave up and decided to do my own thing.... i sat in the side bar; inbetween the main bar and the reception for about 30mins flicking through my photos... i thought i saw a shadow pass me a few times but nothing caught.

Next i went up stairs again and retreated to room 4 sitting in the door way talking to a member of another group across the corridor before he gave up and left me alone. Nothing happened... I think Jack was too busy on the 4 ouiji boards down stairs!

The Irish mum decided to join me but we got bored and wondered down to the museum before she freaked out so we abandoned that idea!  Looking for a quiet retreat i sat in the small seating area between the gift shop and the restaurant... i stayed there for about 45mins thinking... "this torture will be over soon and as soon as i hear Rich calling everyone back to the restaurant area i will join them. Time ticked and at 4:20 ( the night was suppose to end at 4am) i decided to wonder back into the other room.... NO one was there.... infact all their stuff had gone as well and it was just little old me and my stuff left!!!
How unprofessional.... the organiser had buggered off and not done a head count to make sure everyone was ok. In the main bar a couple of staff members were chatting so i asked if everyone had gone they said yes although there was a small group left in the reception. I went to lok and it was the other half of group 3 that liked silence... doing a ouiji board!! i thought i would hang around and to cut a long story short... one of the woman was so blantly pushing the glass.... dates where coming out spot on and surprise when she took of her finger... nothing happened and when i asked her not to look answers were very random!
The computer did turn its self on and dial up to the net while we were sitting there but nothing else happened. They gave up and left and i went to talk to the two ladies chatting in the bar.

i managed to get an extra 2hours at the inn after the prganiser bugger off... i have to say i have never seen such a lack of organisation before... for such a famous property and sought after location for investigations they really really need to get their act together... if i had the guts i would have asked for a refund.

My advice .... if you are considering taking part in an investigation at the Jamaica Inn orgaised by the Inn.... DONT DO IT.
If you can get a private investiagtion there i beleive it would be great but not with this group.... its beyond a joke.
A total waste of my time, money and effort.....
I wont be going back
