hello all.
i have been a cable technician for 10 years, let me tell you an EVP story.
i got a service call to an apartment to a woman claiming to hear voices in her living room ever since you got her new tv.
when i arrive, she was a older woman with alot of spunk and not afraid to tell ya,
her claim was since she got this tv she could hear voices coming from it, this was about 7 years ago so for the time it was a big screen (40" CRT) now she explained she has recently become a widow and her husband would'nt let her get a new TV so for Christmas she purchased one for herself. and was afraid it was her husband talking to her from the the other side, (she said this jokingly but apprehensive enough) and she had told this to many other technicians and they all couldnt figure it out including the TV company who had just replaced her TV for this reason.
Now as a technician i have to think scientific and logical FIRST.
we sat quietly for about 10 minutes with out hearing anything. she was very anxious about these events so i understood it was bothering her. which made me more persistant to figure this out.
while we had been sitting there i noticed 2 circles in front on either side of the TV on the rug, and asked what went there, she explained, 2 holegan lamp stands she had moved to a closet before i got there to give me room to work. with appreciation i asked if we could move everything back to the way it would normally be so if there was something else causing this we could rule thiem out.
so we moved the 9 million pound television back in its position which she had it pivetted out at the time and placed the lamps back into the circles on the rug.
the 20 minutes of chat with this most energizing woman was interupted, by my surprise Voices, first it was one muffled then it was a few more then it would end then more until it became very audible and spooky. so i went closer to the TV and it was definatley coming from the speakers.
Now, from being a Citizen band radio community antenna ham radio and cable tech , reminded me that a conductive object of a certain length will gather energy from frequency waves of equel length. similar to your FM dypole you use to pick up your stations on your house radio. they are a certain length to be the most efficient to recieve the frequency of your popular stations.
so using myself as a capacitor i touched one of the lamps to discharge the energy. and the sound now only came out of the other speaker which made explaining this to the customer easier. this great TV had a real good Hi-FI system so the sounds had been casted all around the room once i discharged the one lamp pole which had been 6 ft long the sound was obvious.
the woman had recorded the sounds with a micro recorder in the past, advice from watching a ghost hunter show on TV, and let me have the tape, when i got back to the office we broke down all the frequencies, isolated them, and listened. there were 900mhz phones baby monitors radio stations. all garbled together.we could hear the DJs of the local music talk shows announce themselve and the station IDs.we could hear some police and fire dispatcher, busing company radio chatter.
i hope this was entertaining and educational. exposed conductive meterials like piping air ducts metal studs that may not be grounded or insulated could give you a false voice or noise, thats all an antenna is, a conductor designed to pick up unheard sounds and channel them down to speakers in the most simple terms. you can try this at home with a metal coat-hanger in front of an old speaker without a ground eventually you will start hearing AM radio chatter and other sounds even the coil on an old VW, they had negative grounds which made the body of the car a radio transmitter. those of you who are old enough to remember the AM radio days you heard a VW or Volvo approaching on your radio before you even seen the car ( chuckle )
i suggest when placing your recorder in a room you concider these exsamples and try to place them away from such conductors as you can to ensure it doesnt get corrupted for this woman, I moved the lamps a few feet away from her TV and she stopped hearing the voices.
please excuse the spelling and grammer i am not much of a writer.
was this helpfull?
