This is one I wrote some time ago, up[dated some of it with more thoughts. But it is a companion to my previous blog.

Showing how even in teh Catholic Church there are 'separatists", a divide between the old way and the new way.

"Traditional" vs. "Modern" Catholics"

It is not surprising how many people proclaim to be "Catholic", Yet by their action they shouldn’t even consider themselves "Christians".

But beyond this have true heresies being allowed in the church that is even against current post Vatican II Canon law. If they are not properly led by their Priest /Mentors, how well can they be true "Christians" even?

Through out this article I will talk about the OLD WAY, traditional versus the more modern Church (post Vatican II primarily)

I see a great divide that keeps growing deeper and wider as I begin to feel as a crusty old dinosaur of the faith, simply citing even the current doctrine, the very thing many Priest aren’t enforcing in their own parishes.

I attended a wedding with Known Protestants in the seat attending. When communion came, everyone got up to receive communion. The Priest never mention that before this mass that only Catholics can receive the host at mass. All too common this is the second wedding this occurred at.
This is a Heresy plain and simple and should not be allowed. But Priest are concerned about not offending anyone more than their own faith.

Did I ever think I would see the day when a lay person has to tell a Priest he can’t allow that?

Why did they stop the Saint Michael prayer Pope Leo XIII had instituted to be said After every mass? Is the power of evil being taken for granite so as these people feel there is no longer a need for this prayer? (Read about St. Michael original prayer and the reason it was written...)

When Priest are approached for help with "deliverance" (Haunted), you often get one of two more common responses:

"Aw the Devil doesn’t work like that now a days, this is the 21 century." and...
"All you need a strong belief in Jesus, and you don’t have to worry about those things" (a Gross Underestimation)

-Or we get a reaction of fear-

They are merely afraid to intervene. Try telling them things are flying around a house and look at his face. They are often afraid.
Weak faith Priest are ones we see do a blessing in a house and stop halfway through because they are getting nauseated or too uncomfortable to carry on.

Yes, this is a real problem.

The seminaries are not preparing these people (since the 60’s) to better understand demonology and spiritual warfare. Another Vatican II change no doubt. Assuming this extra knowledge will be bestowed upon the specially chosen ones who will be Church sanctioned Exorcists. And more so training Priest as Mere preachers of the faith. Not more diverse as they should be.

Imagine a time when a Priest could perform the Roman Ritual without the red tape and special permission from his Bishop? Yes, before the Vatican II changes any priest could perform the Roman Ritual, but as you suspect not so many cases as there is today for this...

Vatican II was a jump away from a more reverent church. The changes were not met well by all. Those whom prefer the old way, are called "Traditionalist".
There are some Clergy I know of who view us as the "Radicals", "Fundamentalist" in our views. When in reality those who strayed from the old ways should be considered such. Remember we are not taking about some minor changes, these are major changes. Changes that conflict with Actual Church Doctrine, which simply can not be altered.

Some of the changes were:

Communion in the Hand
Seminaries taught for almost 200 years, that upon ordination a priest hands were specially blessed as to touch the host, which is believed to be the true body of Christ. The Thumb and the Index finger in particular. After V-2 (70’s). The priest would place it into the hand of the person receiving the host. This was considered a heresy before Vatican II. They would take it. It took 30 years for the generation to pass where the old way on the tongue was practically an extinct practice. I see the Host dropped more often placing it in their hands, than on their tongues. Some Church representative tried to make a case that placing it on the tong transfers Germs. Yet every mass has people sharing the same goblet of Wine. (BTW, The Wine was only used not long ago on certain holy days during mass, for some reason they do it at every mass now.)
The point is direct contact with the wine goblet is going on there. SO what was the Real Benefit of Communion in the, and why is it no longer a heresy for laity to handle the host or serious to drop one. Not long ago if the priest dropped the host, he would spend much time through prayer to reconcile the incident.
I am betting they don’t even do that.

This also included Eucharistic ministers whom are not Ordained priest.

KNEELING
The act of Kneeling before the alter is one of Humility and respect, when they removed the kneeling rail from all of the churches. This was another move to a less reverent and holy church.

FACING FRONT
The priest used to say mass not facing away from the blessed sacrament (hosts), and alter, another sign of reverence and respect. But they moved it to more of a "Performance" than a Holy Mass. Having him face the people from behind the alter. With his back to the holy sacrament the whole time.

OPEN CONFESSION
Many Churches were forced to add the close confessional back into the church after removing them to adjust to a demand from people, who preferred a private confession. Not a face to face. There are many reason for a closed confessional and why the isolation. I may fill this in later, but it deals with physiological as well as providing a "sneeze guard" from each other.

MODERNIZING THE CHURCH

I used to look with AWE at the Majestic Statues of Joseph Mary Saint Michael.

And I remember as a child when they decided to modernize the parish with Modern Art form. As I can them "snaky" statues, distorted proportions , starting to look like vague representations of the Saints. They the Crucifixes were removed and replaced with plain crosses. As I know how Demons advert from the sight of a crucifix, and don’t even flinch at a plain (unblessed Cross) I think this was also a bad mood. We forget the passion was the most important part. The resurrection a promise of eternal salvation in the after life. We need to be reminded of Christ’s passion which is key.
And yes this is when the Communion rails came out.
Latin Mass, etc.

The part that concerns me is the traditional Catholic is viewed as a sort of ’Defrocked heretic’. When clinging to the ’old way’ seems to be further from that label than what I see going on now with the Modern churches today.

Now the Devil is stronger than ever, and yet there is NO Saint Michael prayer being said at every mass. Or anytime in our church.

Most priest I meet have no clue about the devil and his minions and how they affect us today. Still surprises me to see a look of ’fear’, or ’disbelief’ when I approach them about a need for ’deliverance’. This is a huge problem.
I never thought I would see the day when Laity would know more than a priest about Spiritual Warfare. But it is happening more and more of of necessity.
(Thank God for People like Noah J!)

I think we should try to organize an effort to better educate priest here ion America and in every state. No need to fly to Italy to have Gabriel Amorth teach you in a 6 week class. It needs to be more accessible. train deliverance teams, team leaders, more ’qualified’ demonologist, and so on.

And also I see a need to help Modern Catholics understand what "traditional" Catholics are NOT ’heretics’ as some would have them believe. Some of the more holy and pious priest you will meet are considered ’defrocked’ by the current governing body of the church. It makes you wonder at what point will the church change to where the ’great divide’ is a even -wider gap- with MORE who share a view other than a modernized church.

These things need to be addressed.

I believe aggressive steps should be taken on both of these notes, more so what we see now. Clergy and laity working towards this goal!

(FYI I would qualify as a "traditionalist" )

Not having been a regular church-goer for the last forty years, but I grew up in both pre-VII and post VII and the changes were in some cases welcome.  But not everything.  "Folk Masses" belong in H-E-Double Toothpicks, give me the traditional music composed by the masters eveyr time.  The kneeling rail shoudl have been abolished but in the churches I've visited in recent years, it has not. Have I missed something? When I do visit a church for Mass, I feel like some kind of dinosaur.  I took my husband to midnight Mass a few years back and was surprised when he (a Methodist) started to get up to go to communion. He was shocked when I told him that in the Catholic Church, communion was a sacrament reserved for Catholics only. He told me that his Catholic ex-wife had never said a word about it when they attended together.  And I thought if I let him go, I would be in real trouble!

 Oh well, little did Iknow...

I am for open mindedness, but experience has taught me that traditionalism is the Key. I am not saying repetitiveness of certain ceremonial duties. I am saying that what is in the Bible and how it is taught by the Catholic Church of Old is a better stand against what is happening in peoples lives today, and the worlds for that matter. I am also not saying that the Catholic church does not have its own problems with in its higher ranking orders, which do need to be addressed or it is of the world instead of God.

Ken,  change is envitable  right or wrong it will occur.  Churches are made of people and people change.  If the heirarchy of the church did not change it would cease to exist in time. The Only entity that does not change is God.    While I understand where you stand in your belief, we must never forget ones relationship with God is a personal one and that is where we must focus.  Like yourself there is much I do not agree with but force can never be asserted in ones belief.   Since the beginning of time the world around us has been evolving constantly.   When we get caught up in doctrines  we separate and divisions are created along with ego's.   The most important scripture that is a commandment is thrown aside as though it means nothing to us. How insane is that? Truly?  Am I being  unrational when saying this?  Seems my words offend people and honestly that IS NOT WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO.   I simply do not understand  why people keep insisting on doctrines and dogma when in most religions LOVE is the law yet they will go through their holy books and pick words to justify everything else but LOVE.   Has Humanity learned anything?  I wonder all the time.

Ken, I couldn't agree more. I converted to Catholocism 5 years ago after I was married. Before my conversion I was a believer but not a worshiper. Sundays were a day of golf instead of Church. The more I was around my wife and her family and saw how stong their faith was it made me want to be a part of this, to feel like they were feeling. So I joined and there were still many questions that I had after my RCIA classes so I began to read book after book, anything that I could get my hands on, about the Catholic Church, past and current. I was (am) amazed at how much it has changed to give into the current values of our society to try and retain membership. My wife has an Uncle that is a priest and I love being able to sit down with him and talk to him about different issues of the church and see what he thinks about these issues. I have talked to him a little on the paranormal and about the Devil and Demons. After our last conversation he said that next time we got together we would have a few Manhattans and he would tell me everything that he could about that subject. My current Priest does not want to discuss this subject with me but I have found a Priest in a nearby Parish that is willing to help out in anyway possible. He has blessed a couple of homes at my request and seems willing to help in anyway. Please count on me to help with this effort in anyway that you need.
