Well, I can't say I personally see to much or even feel that much to be honest. I do place protections around myself though because I have had negative things in the past. So I guess the best thing possible is to protect your aura. Try meditating to communicate with your personal guides regarding these images and how to interpret them.

I think the "that's how they want to get my attention" pretty much sums it up.

It sounds like you're a strongly visual person (for example, I have some clairvoyant ability though it's not my strong suit by any means and I generally don't get an image in my head, I can describe the person down to the smallest visual detail though... because I'm not an especially visual person).  It also sounds like as you open yourself up to these experiences they're becoming cemented within you so you recognize more and can see more.

You should protect yourself carefully before you go into any situation there's a potential for meeting up with earthbounds or nonhuman entities (you can't predict in every situation but if you're going on an investigation I'd assume that you already have fairly strong anecdotal evidence that something's there).  If you haven't already, you should look into meditation.  I always suggest that people do some sort of meditational exercise... like yoga or tai chi or chi gong.  That's because they strengthen your body, teach you the discipline to quiet your mind and teach you how to recognize/control your own energy/chi/aura which in turn helps you recognize what else is out there.  You should look into finding a faith that you can be strongly grounded in (if you're not already... or you should work on being spiritual and attuned to the faith you practice).  Learn everything you can about grounding and shielding practices... there are lots of great ones out there and one (or more) will be right for you.

Finally, don't be afraid to see something.  That is WAY easier to say than it is to do.  Seeing makes communication all that much easier... which makes assessing a situation and helping all that much easier.  If there are things you don't want to see or to know about, ask your spirit guides and God to shield them from you until you are ready (you don't need to ask your guides by name... it can be as simple as "hey guide... I don't want to see things like "x", please don't let me see that again.").
