OVERPRICED HAUNTED LOCATIONS

OVERPRICED HAUNTED LOCATIONS

You know I am all for historical restoration, preserving history is very important to me. I love history, always have, I have always been more confortable in my environment in a old establishment vs. a new one, regardless of the type of bldg it is. In fact I have always said I was born in the wrong time period.

This is a small portion of why I am so drawn to the paranormal and its many many varied branches. I love to go into a renowned haunted location and investigate its environment. I enjoy investigations in which takes place at locations in which finds a weekly barrage of investigators and paranormal enthusiast, I believe these locations are a draw for spirits.

True paranormal researchers and investigators who are out there really trying to find answers based on scientific means and methods are spending a very large amount of money none the less travel expenses and time away from family.

I just cant help but think that if you are a owner of a haunted location, and you are really wanting scientific evidence, work with the team on a nominal fee. We realize the responsibility and expenses that it takes for the restoration effort, we just ask that you don't charge "as much as you think you can get!"

But I ask you, "Are you realizing how much expense it takes on our end to provide you with this scientific proof?"

You know...I always rant and rave about the stigma finally decreasing to some degree, paranormal occurance finally being recognized as something other than "your crazy and loosing your mind," however the downside to this veil thinning and lifting is that there are some haunted location owners out their capitalizing on this...so frustrating! Talk about hampering our efforts as a community.

A professional and dedicated group, if one contacts you for permission to investigate your location, just remember all that goes into our end too!

Paranormal Unity isn't just for us investigators...it is for anyone whose hand may fit in that universal glove!

Just my thoughts... ok and well maybe frustrations from a passionate paranormal researcher. Argghhh!

I am ok paying a reasonable fee... It does cost money to have insurance for letting people on the property, and to use the electricity, heat and plumbing etc. Restorations purposes I am all for also.

I do have a problem when the price gets jacked up becuase a show was aired and made the place more popular.  I will simply not go if that happends... you probably will not get any good evidence if there are tons of people being let loose in a place anyway.

Have a great day!

Monkeychic55, how can you call what they did to the central guard area preserve?   They turned it into a reception hall to pimp out, that's not restoration, that's exploitation.  I don't mind helping to restore the old prison, but to help finance what they did in the central guard area?  I'm not too pleased with that.

Well, I use my vacation to go to Disney World for a couple weeks a year to have a good time. I just can't see paying to go to a place where hundreds of people go and get no serious evidence anyway.  Just my opinion. I am sure those that do have a great time.

I also, really can't fault a property owner who is bombarded by people to run around his old dilapidated building for charging either. The popularity of the TV shows opened the door for anyone with an old building and a story to make a good buck and that is the American way.

I can remember years back where people would love to have you go over their properties. I even did several in Europe for free. (they liked Americans back then) They would get a big kick out of it and maybe a laugh but, you would get your investigation. I guess when the word gets out about certain places, a big wave of everyone wanting to investigate puts a strain on the property owner too. That is one reason we don't hunt.  Oh, I started out hunting like most when I was younger but for me it takes up a lot of time I could be using investigating.

So, although we don't take a lot of cases. The ones we do, are more interesting and free. I do understand the frustrations of those who are looking for places to investigate. Only to run into the wall of charging high prices to do so.

Added question...  If you owned a large popular piece of property that looked or was thought to be haunted. That also had high property taxes. What would you do???

I agree Lemberger.  When TAPS comes in and "makes a place popular"....then the price of that investigation seems to go up!  I also use my vacation time to go to the more well known places.  Waverly Hills for instance.  I went last summer.  It did cost quite a bit to go on the full over night tour.  I know they are restoring the building, so I hope the money went to good use so that the building will be around for many years to come.  Now, what REALLY bothers me is some groups charge (just an example) $100 for investigation X.....and then another group will go to the SAME location for the SAME amount of time and charge $300.  That bothers me.  The only difference was that you had a guided tour by a "popular" person from the paranormal field.  No extra stuff.....just that.  So $200 per person extra for this "popular" person to give you the initial guided tour.  WOW!  Needless to say I picked the cheaper one!  We had a blast!!  LOL

Have you ever been to Ohio State Reformatory??  Thru donations and our ghost hunts we have been able to preserve a wonderful, eerie looking building.  The preservation society has put on a new roof, taken down some of the lead paint that has been peeling off,  renovating the warden's quarters and other various projects.  OSR's ghost hunts are $50 per person.  You have the building to yourself from 8pm to 6am the next morning.  Pizza at 11pm and pop, water, coffee all night long at no extra cost.  I am so very happy to say that I am a part of OSR's efforts to keep this historical site moving forward.

If the property owner was really concerned about what paranormal events were happening in their place. They would be calling someone in and not asking a dime for them to do what they do. And yes it is exploitation all around from the group that goes in and pays for an investigation to the property owner who is getting free advertisement for their hotel, or bed&breakfast, or their rooming house whatever it may be. Cant be helped its the way of the world! If you do not want to pay to investigate an advertised haunted location, then don't. I wouldn't there are many of other places with real paranormal activity happening in them and the area's which you do not have to pay for. So why give these places money, and why keep them happy by saying oh I have been there and I have been here, and everyone that is new in this is going to be saying oh I have to go there because its the hot spot to go for paranormal investigations. All you do when you pay to investigate is add fuel to the fire.

Well, I am crazy and loosing my mind, but for other reasons than an interest in the paranormal.  I agree that many owners are capatalizing on the fact that there are those who will pay a large fee to come and "investigate" or what I like to call, get the poop scared out of them.

However, we as investigators have the right not to go.  Yeah, it sucks, but it's our choice.  I use my vacations to go to some of the more well known sites.  I have no problem giving the money, because I know, without some of these people, taking a risk in saving these buildings, we wouldn't have anything, but rows and rows of new condos.

What tans my hide, is when shows, like TAPS, help these people to pimp these places.  Not only are the owners making money, but the shows are too.  It's one thing to have a show and make money that way, but to be in cahoots with the owners for profit, now that really ticks me off.
