The Tunguska Mystery

The Tunguska Mystery

Tunguska devastation

One hundred years ago – June 30, 1908 – something exploded over Sibera with a force more than 1,000 times that of the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Although there are many theories, to this day no one knows for certain what caused it.

This event has always fascinated me.  I knew a lady from my former parish Church who came from there.  Her mother was an "eyewitness" to this event and she said that her mother told her when she was growing up that everyone in her town thought it was a religious event.

But she also said that the Church at the time, released a statement that said it was a "subject for men of science to pursue."  Now that this is back in the news, I have a couple of other Russian friends I can ask, and see if they can come up with said Church statement.  It would be interesting from a historical point of view, to know that the Church was saying "no it is not religious".
