Grrr.. TAPS /Ghost Hunters again.
by Regan

So our team went to the board of a location here in Washington. Our team representative did a presentation on our group, what we do and approached them with a proper proposal to investigate their location.

We got it. We bagged it. The board ok'd it. Stipulations: If the investigation goes well, they will want us to do another presentation on what we've found; no biggy we've done it many times before. If that goes over well, they'll want to put it in their museum.

Fast forward a couple weeks. One of the board members, really unsure of what we do, and was kind of iffy about the whole "ghosts in our location", decided to go rent the 1st season of TAPS/Ghost Hunters to provide her with an example of "Ghost Hunting". She invited other board members over to watch it, they congregated, and did. Mind you, this was just a few of a handful of board members.

They were SO TURNED OFF BY WHAT THE WATCHED ON THE PROGRAM (Demeanors, behaviors, and methods) ...
That they bagged our investigation.

That was literally their reason. No exaggeration. No excuses. They didn't like what TAPS did and assumed we were the same way.

Ya, because our team runs around like a bunch of jackasses, with IR green night shot, making crass comments, being disrespectful to the location and it's heritage, and ultimately looking like incompotent oofs out having fun. When does the line get drawn?

WE ARE NOT A DAMN TELEVISION SHOW! WE DO NOT BASE OUR INVESTIGATIONS OFF OF TELEVISION! THESE PARANORMAL ICONS ARE NOTHING BUT ACTORS ON A REALITY BASED DRAMA; NO DIFFERENT THAN SUPERNANNY, WIFE SWAP, OR DIRTY JOBS.

They do not set the segway, pathway or advancement on how we approach an investigation.

DOE!

Foiled again by a horrible investigation example put out by a mass media television program. All I keep hearing about is
how "helpful" this program has been to the paranormal field.
How much they have "contributed" to our investigative society.
How much they have opened doors... blah blah blah.

From where I stand, sure looks like a set of heavy wooden antique doors have been shut pretty hard on us.

I would have to agree with MichaelW.

Unfortunately for all of us, T.A.P.S. popularity has unofficially made them the standard by which the NON-paranormal community judges and measures the rest of us. It makes for a hard road but I would have to say that if some are so narrow minded and beguiled by a TV show then it may be looked at as a good thing that they cancelled.

I mean, if they believe that T.A.P.S. is the highest of standards in the Paranormal field then they may have misjudged you in a less than favorable light when you did things differently. No matter how professional you are.

In any case, I would write a friendly letter explaining that TAPS is TV, you are not and hold to higher standards. I would however tell them how sorry you were that they believed TV over the real thing. It might get them to re-evaluate the situation.

But that's just me...

I agree with TantricKitten.  That's a really good idea, did you give them some references of other places that you have done.  Maybe they could vouch for your professionalism?

Oh, Regan, I know how disappointed you must be and how much you were looking forward to this, especially after all that hard work.  Want me to come over and egg the b*tch's house?

Invite a few of them on one of your next investigations...

I would send a thank you note for their considering to have you out at all.  I would politely stress that your group is run like you represented at the presentation, NOT like Ghosthunters/TAPS.  Thank them again and say that you would be thrilled to accommodate them should they ever change their minds.

That might do it... I wouldn't get my hopes up but it just might turn the tide.  At the very least it will show how classy you all are.

Well there you have it I guess.  too bad however you have to remember there are norrow minded people out there too.  Would it be worth it to do the investigation or not who knows what you could have caught.  Maybe nothing then where would you be then.  I say if they are going to do that screw them..  lol I am really sorry this happened but like dav said there will always be another one to go on if not better ones

Love you
