Case Closed

Hiya everyone.  I know, I haven't been on in awhile, flitting in and out.  Checking on everything when I get the chance.  Ah life, whatcha gonna do.  So, now, I'm gonna try to be a little more committed to the internet (though I do have investigations and conferences and school beginning).

For the start of that commitment, I was wondering about something that I've seen quite a bit.  I'm at the start of all my investigations, doing research, getting dates to go and blah, blah, blah.  So after I do all this, plus the investigation, go over the data and then present it to the client, I close the case.  For some reason, that just doesn't sound right.

You close a case after all the stuff is done and presented. Hmmmmm, does this mean that all the ghosts are gone?  That the client won't have a problem anymore since we've come in?  Isn't that kind of like going in to an abusive situation, saying "Yup, you're spouse is hitting you.  Have a nice day." and then leaving.

Oh, sure, we could get them a priest, smudge, dance naked around a fire, or do some vodoo thing, but isn't that really just a band aid?  Has it been proven that these methods truly get rid of the unwanted guests?  Let's say a family is able to unite and overcome whatever is in the house.  They leave and stay strong, nothing ever crossing their path again, but what about the next set of occupants.  Is it possible that something could just be lying in wait for someone weak enough?

Is case closed a term we use, when we are done with the client and not when the client doesn't need our help?

I myself love do keep files and do followups to see how things are going.  most of the time they do tell me everything is fine. ya wonder if the investigation was a little too much for them to handle seeing we are in this conservitive state.. no one wants to talk about stuff like that here.

I have had cases that the resident brought it in and tried to consel them but yet they dont want it.. they wont answer the calls you make then ya have to wonder about that as well.. Rev Allan is in my group to do such a thing but most of the time they just dont want anything to do with that.  They want us to investigate their home but nothing more so whats a gal to do

Continued research is what is important to me.  I don't feel there is a point to going and finding out if it is haunted or not other then to determine if it is adaquate to begin research of this location.  That is what I have done for the last 19 years.

Going just to do what you said is nothing more then people copying what they see TAPS do.  I fail to see the point in what TAPS does except to fill 1 hour in a TV Show.

Well if you keep a filing cabenit of all the cases you have investigated. Then the case is never closed. If you go through the filing cabenit and compare cases evidence collected how they began till the end of your investigations. They are not closed. Just because you close a case and move on does not mean that it is closed. There is much information with in that filing cabenit that can be used in other investigations as a reference to paranormal happenings on other investigations. So no the cases are not closed. My self I leave a number, email address and a Po box where any occupant of a former investigation can get back in touch with me if they need to. I myself do not believe in calling the client after all the material is presented to them and keep maintaining contact. If a client needs help again, they know how to get in touch with me.

I guess in a sense the case is always evolving because you might say case closed and a yr later something else happens, do you reopen the case or add to it.If you have a crazy letter and number filing system like Ma-12345-2008-00 first the state then the number then year then leave a space for the furture the last set of numbers could be used for future reference if the last sequence is 00 or 01 then if the local happens again just simply add it to 02 maybe have an asterick. If you look at a file like a medical record they are on going. If you dust it off 30 yrs later then its reopened. Case closed put finality to it maybe case dormant like a volcano because they can flare up at anytime and I guess its the situation that enhances it. The person could go and sell the house and then they remodel stirring up the pot to say and then it might be a new case because of the occupants or an old revised because of the location.I understand what your saying. Maybe it can be cut and dry and never flare again but the what ifs leave it open for a topic of discussion on its own..

That is a good blog lemberger.  After a case closing I like to stay in touch with the client to make sure everything is going ok.  I always tell them if they need anything not to hesitate to call me and I am available 24 hrs a day 7 days a week.  I know I am dedicated.  LOL!  I don't like just going in doing the investigation showing them what we got and going on my merry way.  I like to try to help them as much as I can, keep in contact with them.  Sometimes they want us to get rid of stuff but I don't bust ghost.  I can only educate them the best I can and if I run into something I can not handle or am not sure of I can always call on a team that can assist.

From the Desk of IAH:
There are still issues with the inboxes. I'll get on it tomorrow and see if I can't figure out what the problem is. I apologize for any unusual things that may occur during this time. Maybe we really are haunted!?
