Throwing Evidence Away

The last investigation here at The Garrs Lane Project was May 31st. There were 2 groups that night that came to do a joint investigation.

I emailed one group on the July 4th weekend and asked for the audio evidence. They said it was contaminated with people talking and animals, but that they had some parts that might have something on it. They said to give them time and they would get it to me.

About a week later I emailed again about "how the evidence was coming along". He said he had been busy and that it takes time. I wasn't asking him to go through it, but to just send me a copy of the whole thing.

A couple weeks later he said he would have to wait til the other group's founder came back from Ireland because he gave the audio to him.

So I emailed this guy and he said the evidence was contaminated and they threw it out.

I got nothing! How can a group be so unprofessional? If you were to go to their website and look at their investigations page of the investigations they have done, 99% they got nothing, so they deemed the place "not haunted". My house, they put, "has minor activity.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard back from this group and was told that they do still have the evidence and that they won't give me contaminated evidence. If they think it was contaminated with them talking, along with animals and kids talking outside, I think they don't know how to investigate.

I wanted to listen to the audio and see if I can hear anything, because I know how these ghosts sound sometimes. Besides, it is my house, and I have a right to all of the evidence that was collected here. Don't I?

I NEVER throw any of our data/evidence away.  Even if there is nothing at all I still keep a copy on my hard drive as well as CD and jump drive. I know I will have alot but I can alway go back if I need to.

There seems to be a lot of that going around.  Not only are their groups that refuse to share evidence, there are groups that refuse to share evidence within their own groups.  To go even further, there are groups that pick and choose what members may go on each and every investigation to keep things even more cryptic.  I have seen groups get a glimpse of prominence and change completely.  Most want to be affiliated with more popular groups merely to give themselves more credibility by advertising rather than investigation to prove their worth.  Garr's seems to be one of those exceptions.

The days of investigative teams is coming to an end.  We are seeing more and more groups and less teams.  Groups are a bunch of individuals looking to make their own mark.  Teams are well trained and cross trained to work together and complete the task.  There aren't many teams left.  As much as I dislike TAPS, you see all of their members get to do a little of everything.  They are still a team even though they were constantly hassling a couple of the members to get ratings.  Some groups are started by individuals seeking truth.  They eventually cave in to having other members do work they get can personally take credit for on their website.

When was the last time you heard of a group leader say my team member "X" did this for us on their website?  Look at the websites.  Do you see more pictures of the members or the leaders?  Which has more prominence on their website;  their "awards" or their evidence? That is a good way to learn about any group you are thinking of joining.

With a few exceptions, I don't really see groups accomplishing much anymore.   I think I will call them drive-through Sherlocks. ^v^

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your comment. I couldn't believe these two groups. They even made assumptions about other group's evidence that they have gotten here, saying they were reflections in the basement.

It just goes to show it doesn't matter how many ghost hunting toys you have to play with, that still doesn't make you a professional ghost hunting group.

This is the second time I've seen something of this nature today.  I hate to say it...but this is what happens when everyone wants to do it their way.  This is what happens when there is no code of ethics and standardized investigation protocols.  This is what happens when you let individualism sweep through the paranormal.

This is only going to get worse.  This is just the beginning.  This is what I have been talking about for ohhhh...2 years now.  As of right now we have no way to label a group as being effective or ineffective because we have no standards by which to base their work.

I am sorry you had such an experience.  I am not trying to minimize the situation you are in...just had to say my piece.

There are still issues with the inboxes. I'll get on it tomorrow and see if I can't figure out what the problem is. I apologize for any unusual things that may occur during this time. Maybe we really are haunted!?
