This is a very strange phenomenon. I am 43 years old and have seen these things all my life. They can come throgh the walls and windows of your home and they do act like there is intelligence there.
My Mother was a target for these things. One time when I was about 10 years old I was sitting in the dining room doing homework and I got a creepy feeling, like being watched and I looked around and saw an (orb) floating outside the kitchen window. It came through the glass and hovered around in the kitchen for a sec. then it moved AROUND the kitchen table and began to moved toward the other end of the house toward the bedrooms then it stopped. It came back to the dining room and then it stopped again when it reached the doorway to the den where my Mom was sitting reading a book. All of a sudden it zipped and I mean zipped!! into the den and was about a foot away from my Mom's face. She tilted her book down and pulled her glasses down her nose and sat there looking at it. After about a minute I called to her and she just said stay there. I watched it kind of bobble up and down then it exploded!!! It sounded like a fire cracker going off. Mom didn't even flinch!! all she did was say OK... then she pushed her glasses back up and then her book and started reading again and said go finish your homework. This was a commom occurence with her but now that I'm getting older it happens to me now and I do not know why.
I have seen them every where we have ever lived but not as much as I do where I now live. I wish I could find some answers to this, my Mom never would talk it when it happened to her, she just always said don't let them bother you. Well, they do and they can be very creepy sometimes. One night I replaced every light bulb in my house after the things came in and every bulb blew up one by one and there wasn't a storm going on outside, there never is when it happens.
