Weathering the Storm

Hurricanes aren't something we here in Ohio are used to, ever see, or know how to deal with, though we do often get rain/storms from left overs they seldom wreak havoc. So when the Remnants of Hurricane IKE was heading our way, we just said.. "Oh, ok.. so we're going to get rain on Sunday." Well, the remnants packed a punch. 75-85 mph winds here in my little neck of the woods. We saw little rain, but sat on the porch and watched as tree after tree and branch after branch came down.

We had one injury caused by a falling tree limb, my sister was standing under it when this 6ft long 3 in thick tree branch fell from the top of a tree while we were clearing the street of large debris.

We faired pretty well considering! We lost power for 4 days but we still had our house and our cars. Others weren't so lucky! There was a couple on a motorcycle hit by a falling tree, killed immediately. There was a person sleeping in their house when a tree came through their room, they too died. There was a lot of property damage and more than 1.9 million people in Ohio left PowerLess. Most of the power around the state has been restored, they are still working. We had crews come in from across the country to help restore the power, lumber Jacks from Kentucky and Tennessee to remove trees from roadways and power lines.

I think it took a tole on me though.. Monday night I feel down the stairs to the basement, landed on both knees on the concrete floor... OUCH!!!!! I am still having problems with my right knee.. Scraped up my elbow pretty good too.. In the haste to clean up yard debris people began buring the downed trees and branches, without checking them.. So I woke up Tuesday morning covered with Poison Ivy on my face, neck, and forearms.. In my Nose, Ears and throat. I'm HIGHLY allergic, and even the slightest hint of it burning in the air, I catch it.. Had I not taken allergy meds, I could have ended up in the hospital..
Due to price gouging around our town and surrounding towns, my sister came in from an hour away to bring us Ice, and such to help us get through the week. Ice was scarce and Walmart decided to charge people $5.99 for a small bag which usually runs $2.49.. Gas JUMPED $0.40 or more the day the power went out.. and most of the gas stations were closed due to no gas or power outages..
When the power came back on Weds. We were soooo happy.. However a lot of our friends and some family around the state still don't have power.

Today the kids finally go back to school.. Schools been closed all week b/c they didn't have power either..
From the stress of the week, my baby James has been extremely fussy, and screaming... I think today will be better for him. Back into a routine..

From the Desk of IAH:
There are still issues with the inboxes. I'll get on it tomorrow and see if I can't figure out what the problem is. I apologize for any unusual things that may occur during this time. Maybe we really are haunted!?
