I wanted to add a blog also, because Al wrote such a nice blog about Phil, I and our shop.
We met Al ( willowcrkfrm ) from IAH last Sunday for the first time. I had talked to him a few times on IAH and really enjoyed him. He brought a friend (Heidi) with him for the visit. We had such a great time getting to know both of them. Al and Heidi brought us cheese, sausage and some candy for the visit, and of course I had some cookie. Gee, I think I'm getting known for my cookies.
They both just loved the shop. After showing them around, we let them walk around by themselves. As you read in Al's blog, they did get some feelings from the shop and the spirits within, so I don't have to go over all of that again. If you missed his blog, please go check it out. He wrote a great blog.
We all went to lunch at the Koffee Kup and had a great time. We got to know each other much better, learning about each other's places. It's really strange how we both got our places. I will fill you in on us buying our place first.
Phil and I had always dreamed about buying this building, but never even thought we had a chance. We had dreamed about it for about a year, knowing it would be empty soon. We had always heard stories on it being haunted, but that didn't seem to bother us for some reason.
Phil just happened to walk into the building the day the pizza place was moving out. He asked if anyone knew who owned the building, as it had been a rental for over 20 years. A guy stood up and told Phil he did. Phil then asked him if he would like to sell the building. They guy told him sure he would. They then walked around the building and the guy told Phil how much he wanted for it. Phil told him, I'll take it. That's how fast we bought our building. I had not even seen it yet.
Phil came home that day and told me that he had just bought our dream building. I thought he was nuts. I really thought he was just kidding me. Well, I was wrong. Phil had keys to the building when he came home and took me down to see it. Believe me, after seeing the rest of the building, I wanted to sit down and cry. I had never seen such a mess in my life. Well, Phil had a dream and he could see what he could do with this building through all the mess, and after all, we had both dreamed about this building. We both felt it was meant to me. The building seemed to want us to own it. Everything just clicked into place after that day and here we are today, with out business in our own haunted building. Our dreams came true.
Well after talking to Al, his buying his place worked out about the same way. The land was calling him. He had left New York and moved to the Midwest to become a farmer. It's something he's wanted to do for a long time in his life. It was meant to be. He happened to find the farm, drove out to see it, called and told the Real Estate people he would take the farm. It was just what he was looking for. Al never even went into the house before he bought the farm. He knew the house needed work, but that didn't bother him at all. The day he signed the papers, he asked, kinda joking, is the place haunted? Shocked looks on everyone's faces told him it was. They then told him, as a matter of fact, it is! He still went through with the deal, signed the papers and then headed out to his new farm to check it out. Like our story, the place was a mess. He wondered for awhile if he did the right thing in buying it. He had a love for the farm though.
He moved in and things started happening to him right away. It got to the point that he thought he was going to have to sell the farm. Things were really crazy for awhile. Then he had a friend come to help him and things started to settle down a bit. He also had done a lot of research on his place, just like we have. I think he made peace with his spirits at his place just like we have.
It amazes me how much our stories are a like. We both have a child spirit at our place along with others. We both seem to have learned to enjoy what we are living with. Al is an amazing man. Both of our places seemed to just fall into our laps, kinda like our places had picked us. Heck, maybe they did. After all both places seemed to know we all loved our land and buildings and were going to take good care of them. Who knows, maybe the spirits picked us to own our places. I guess that could happen.
I can't wait to go visit Al's place someday. it's just great to meet people that you have been getting to know here at IAH. We really enjoyed our visit so much. I'm sure we will stay friends for a long time to come.
Thanks for a great visit Al, we really enjoyed it also. Vicky
