This weekend, our group " Gulf Coast Ghost Hunters Association" did an investigation at a residential that was going thru renovations... As we arrived at the location, some of our members were wearing shirts representing the name of our group.. People in the area became quite curious in what we were doing. Wearing paranormal shirts and carrying all this equipment into a vacant home.. Alot of people started to walk towards the house and cars began to stop.. Many ask questions.. This may happen to many of you as you go out and investigate.. Has this ever happen to anyone? Paranormal minds would like to know...
We wear our logo everywhere. Especially on an investigation. I don't want to be like so many you see that show you a dark figure running through the camera shot and saying it is a ghost when it is just one of their people. The reason for a logo is for identification and I will know if it is one of us or not.
If a client specifically asked that no logos be worn, I would respect their wishes but would wonder why.
Since my group deals with people who DO NOT want everyone to know...we do not have t-shirts. We have to be very discreet, and wearing anything that "gives" away our reason for being at a site would be counter productive. I do like to wear my Ghostock t-shirts in Savannah, however!
Clients choice. If they want to keep it quiet, then no shirts, carpool and pack as much gear in one bag so your not schlepping stuff back and forth for hours. If they don't care, then wear them. Personally, unless you're working at a store and it's your uniform, I think everyone looks like nubs wearing the same shirt. That's just my opinion and I've never like conformity.
As a homeowner who has undergone several investigations I will give you my "two cents". It is perfectly acceptable to wear your shirts anywhere you go with the following caveat. Make sure the homeowner is specifically asked if they mind. Clearly define what you will wear and what your vehicles will have displayed on them. Not all homeowners think of things like that and then are shocked to see a team show up with signs on their vehicles and wearing shirts with the name of their group clearly displayed. Do not wait for the homeowners to ask you not to...it is not their avocation so they will not think of all these things. I would make it part of your case managers interview and be sure to get ALL responsible parties concurrence. To often I see a wife say ok then a husband is ticked off and guess what..the wife will not be the at fault...he will think you should have also cleared it with him or vice versa. Just a point..if it is a residential investigation the only point to wearing a shirt would be for team pride and only that..the only time it would be seen by others is walking into and out of the home. Is it worth it to tick off a homeowner for that little bit of exposure? It happened to me after I specifically requested NO attention...no names...etc. They drove up in vans with their names all over them and all wearing black t shirts with their name all over them. My neighbors all seem to figure out a way to be outside to try and see what was going on...What do you think my attitude was toward them??? On the flip side I have had a group that was not going to be here until way after dark ask me if it was ok to wear their shirts and I told them it was fine...so be sure to ask the homeowner. I think you will find a lot of them will not mind and would understand how it helps you!
A lot depends on what "vibes" the owner gives out. Had some wanted everything hush, hush. Them some that had told all the neighbors what was going on...depends. Had a business owner once had a reporter there to cover the story. I don't think I would ever have a sign on my vehicle..except to hold it together. I do wear ithe shirt out in public just to see the reaction of people. Of course I do have a very orange jumpsuit I wear in winter to keep warm. Nothing on it, but I have been called "The Great Pumpkin", but at least the rest of the group can find me.
I'm always flying my colors whether it is shopping, sitting around the house or out investigating. Unless I am asked specifically not to do so I take every chance I get to talk with the public and explain what I do and talk with people.
Sometimes when I'm out with my IAH shirt on people stare so intently that I feel a bit self conscience. I actually prefer they approach me over just staring at me.
I am thinking of starting a free banner exchange for anyone with a paranormal website. If you think this is a good idea then let me know. If there is enough interest I'd start it up.
