Welcome back.  With Halloween coming up, I thought I would share some ghost stories from my childhood.  Enjoy.

About twenty miles from where I grew up, there is a small grave located along the side of a county dirt road.  For as long as I can remember while I was in school, my school mates and I would talk about the legend of this grave.  I'll relate the most common story of the grave here.

Sometime in the 1870's, a wagon train came through the area heading west.  In one of the wagons, a little three year old girl, lost her balance and fell out of the back of the wagon.  The train was stopped, but the little girl died.  They burried her next to the trail and moved on.

Fast forward to today, the trail became a county road and the grave is still there, and has been well taken care of over the years.  There are now three grave stones there, the original, one that seems to be very old, and one that was donated to the site in the 80's.

When I was younger, we talked about the grave and the legend of it.  It was stated that if you go to visit the grave, something must be left at the grave, if not, the spirit of the little girl will follow you and cause bad luck.  Taking something is supposed to bring even worst luck, only to go away when the item taken is returned.

Looking at the grave shows that many people have left countless items, either in belief of the legend, or just out of respect.  The most commone thing left on the grave is loose change, especially pennies.  That is why most of the locals call the site the "Penny Grave".

The best story I have heard about the grave came from a teacher I had in high school.  She grew up close to the grave.  One day a friend and her went to the grave for a visit.  Finding to brand new silver dollar coins on the grave, they decided to take them.  Not long after leaving the grave an overwhelming feeling of dread overtook them.  They turned back and returned the coins, causeing the feeling to go away.

I have visited the site myself and there is definitely a sad feeling there.  Below is a photo of the Penny Grave.
