I know the West Milford area somewhat, and there are a number of very strange legends associated with it, such as the very haunted Clinton Road and the old Jungle Habitat (animals from the park were supposedly left there after the park closed, and there are reports of interbreeding with local wildlife - well that is the legend anyway).
