Earthquakes in relation to paranormal activity?
Posted On 04/18/2008 11:23:12

Here in St Louis we've been feeling some earthquakes/aftershocks all morning stemming from eastern Illinois. It started at around 4:30am and we just had a pretty good aftershock at 10:25am. People in our area have had property damage like broken windows, etc... and I'm hoping our inground pool doesn't crack! I just realized we do have earthquake insurance so everything damaged will be covered but it's still making me nervous that these shocks, although not coming from the New Madrid faultline, may have an effect on our faultline and cause bigger problems.

Anyway, on to my point of this blog. There have been theories connecting paranormal activity with the type of rock a haunted location sits on. Granite, limestone and quartz seem to be the most popular materials mentioned, along with water sources. What I would like to know is this: when earthquakes occur, does this affect the residual energy stored in these materials? If it does, do areas more prone to earthquakes (California for example) experience more active locations? I would love to look into this further now that I am sitting here in the current "earthquake central" and would love to know if anyone else has thought about this theory? I'm also wondering if there is an increase in cases after an earthquake for you investigators out there?

Gettysburg, anyone?
Posted On 04/15/2008 16:06:37

Hi all!

I am very excited to tell you about an event I will be attending July 25-27 in Gettysburg. It's being hosted by Southern Ghosts and you can find out more details by going to my website:www.mohistoryhauntings.com. I have promised (for a limited time!)to everyone that mentions my website when they purchase tickets I will give you FREE STUFF!! Just mention me when you order :) I would love to see others from here at this event, it's going to be so much fun!

I have not been to Gettysburg before and as a girl who loves her history this should be a trip to remember. Mark Nesbitt will be there as well and we all know he is Mr. Gettysburg!

And if any of you have some tips for me before I go, please share! I would also like to hear any stories or experiences you've had there. Aaarrgghhh, I'm so excited!!

Craving Attention Much?
Posted On 04/04/2008 13:17:21

I may or may not hit some nerves by posting this but if it's your nerve I hit maybe you should re-evaluate how you are portraying yourself to the general public and the paranormal community because I am not the only person to feel this way. I originally posted this on my Myspace page but felt it is also suitable to share here as well.

Please excuse me while I rant a bit...

It has come to my attention lately that there has been an increase in the number of women in the paranormal field who are less about serious research and investigation techniques and more about how attractive they are. I have recently seen some sort of contest among female members over who is the "sexiest" of the group. I have seen photos posted for the world to see of these ladies wearing not much other than a bra. I have heard stories of women flashing their boobs on investigations to lure any ghosts who might be interested. I can’t tell you how many photos of female ghost hunters I’ve seen with them posing in a very seductive manner.

Seriously, what the hell is going on here? I understand that many women find the paranormal topics interesting and many of them are stay at home moms, etc... and have lots of extra time to devote to reading and learning about ghosts. I understand that some of these women may be a bit lonely and not happy in their relationships or they just don’t get the attention at home that they would like. As a woman I know that it feels nice to receive compliments. I think we can all agree with that, but when you have to put photos of yourself half-dressed to gain this attention it just comes off as desperate.

I’m all for putting up a photo or three of yourself and your team, I have several photos posted of both me and Rachel, but in none of them will you see us with that "come hither" appearance. I like seeing photos of other teams so when I see them out and about I will know who they are and introduce myself. But when I see these photos of women not leaving much to the imagination it just comes off as tacky and in bad taste.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have a very healthy self-image and will be the first to tell you how cute I think I am (ha ha!!) but don’t ever expect me to show you more than just a smile. I am not in this to attract attention to myself and coax flattering remarks from any of you. I take what I do very seriously and to put myself in a smutty light would take away from the goals I have set for myself and MO History & Hauntings. I just wish more women out there would stop taking off their clothes and start helping us promote intelligent women in the paranormal. I don’t need to show you my boobs, I have a brain.

Please ladies, I beg you - woman to woman, start showing some respect for yourself and for all of the women in this community. Keep your personal life and body parts personal and start using your extra time to come up with new theories and ideas the whole community can respect. It will make you a much better person, I promise!

Night Terrors
Posted On 04/28/2007 09:29:44

I'm writing this hoping to find others on here with the same problem, and that is my 6 year old step-daughter has night terrors. She has had them since I can remember, while she was still in diapers. I recall her crying and thrashing around in the middle of the night even in infancy, but at the time I just thought she was a horrible sleeper. Now I know better.

My husband and I have his two girls every other weekend. Usually once during that time the 6 year old will wake us up around 2-4am kicking her legs, screaming, and crying to the point of throwing up. When I go into her room, she will be sitting up, eyes open, looking terrified. I'll usually ask her what she needs and she'll just cry for her mommy. After some time rubbing her back I'll get her to lay back down and she'll be fine.

At one point, I actually saw her have one of these episodes. She started shaking her legs so badly, I seriously thought she was having a seizure. I picked her up and held her and rocked her until she wanted to lay back down. She has screamed so loudly at times that I thought someone was attacking her. And I cannot tell you how many times I've been on my knees scrubbing up vomit at 3am!

When I talked with her mom about it, we decided that she needed to see a doctor. The doctor told her to just ignore the episodes and it will eventually go away on it's own. And in a way, I guess it has. It's just not as bad anymore. Now she kicks her legs and cries a bit. She hasn't screamed in awhile. But she woke me up twice last night crying and kicking and calling for her mother. This morning she doesn't remember any of it, she never does. I'm just a mess over it and I feel helpless just wondering what this poor little girl is going through when she screams and cries at night.

For those of you who know me and have discussed reincarnation with me, this is the same little girl who came to me when she was 4 and told me all about her "last parents". Just out of the blue she started tallking about her other family and how they had lots of kids and a big farm. Her other parents were not nice and they would hit her and at one point kicked her in the head (she has a birthmark in the middle of her forehead that correlates with this). She said her name wasn't Melissa at the time, it was Charla. When her dad teased her and started calling her Charla, she said no, silly, my name is Melissa now! She talked about their farm animals and even giggled when she mentioned a duck she would hold and at one time it pooped on her.

She doesn't remember saying any of this now, she's forgotten it all. She forgot about it 10 minutes after telling us.  And I can't help but wonder if the past life memories and the night terrors are connected somehow.

Does anyone else have experience with this? I would love to hear about it. I plan to research any information I can find to see if there is some type of link. I'm a firm believer in reincarnation, but I don't think I've ever read anything regarding night terrors.

Thanks for reading this and for any advice you all have!!

From the Desk of IAH:
I am thinking of starting a free banner exchange for anyone with a paranormal website. If you think this is a good idea then let me know. If there is enough interest I'd start it up.
