An Investigation at Sachs Bridge (Part One)
It is Sunday, July 22 2007. Six investigators representing three different paranormal groups come together determined to research the ghostly history of Sachs Bridge in Gettyburg, PA. It's 1030PM by the time we arrive to start our investigation. The bridge is large, old and beautiful. It's wooden structures are tainted with some graffiti on the wooden floor boards and along the support beams. A quick meeting of the minds to decide our strategy and off we go. Our search leads us to hike along a dirt path that skirts the pond surrounding the bridge. Most of us are carrying one or two cameras, camcorders, voice recorders and a flashlight while trying to trek across the dark path. Occasionally an unfortunate foot finds itself sinking into a soft pile of mud or teetering on an unsteady collection of rocks in the path, it's owner scattering to maintain balance. The humid night air is thick with the sounds of cicaedas and frogs from the pond.
Sachs Bridge is forever marked in history for its tragic part in the Civil War. Reportedly, three soldiers were hung from this bridge for treason. The fields just beyond the bridge and to the right were used as make shift Civil War hospitals. Between July 1st and July 3rd of 1863, these grounds were saturated with the blood of so many brave american soldiers who either died in the fields or suffered from their injuries. The energy trapped within the geologic symetry of the land is palpable.
The path is dark and awkward to commandeer. It is believed this path leads to unmarked graves of soldiers. Layers of trees prevent the light of the moon from lighting the pathway. We arrive at the end of the path and organize ourselves. Our ears struggle to sort through the various noises assualting our senses. Cicaedas grow louder as we stand and survey the territory. Nobody makes a sound as we try to adjust ourselves to the new sights, sounds and smells overwhelming us.
We start to snap pictures and those who haven't already begun voice recordings, begin to do so now. "Is there anyone here with us tonight?" Communication attempts continue with questions mingled with comments of respect for the cause these men suffered for. As we stand there, a soft rumbling is heard in the distant background. It seems to be coming from the direction of the battlefields to the west of us. The rumbling grows louder with intensity. All of us have heard it and we continue to listen silently to identify any familar sounds. The sounds are not thunder, the night is clear and the forecast denies inclement weather. We stepped up into an opening in the path leading us to some corn fields with open access to view the sky landscape of miles before us. No signs of lightening, no flashes of fireworks and no marching bands practicing at 11PM. There is an eeriness about the sounds. They are distant and yet close. The rumbles are reminiscent of artillery fire and loud canons. The sounds dissipate after about 15 minutes though they continue to haunt us intermittently through our time investigating the bridge landscape.....

Investigation at Ram Tail, Foster RI.
Ram Tail is located in the dense woods of Foster, RI. There lay the remains of an abandoned mill complex, the first offically documented haunted location in Rhode Island as of the 1885 census.
It was July 2006. Several members of NEAR, including Rob and I were investigating this historic location. We walked through the woods during the fall of sunset. The night was warm and thick with mosquitoes. Moist humid air saturated our skin through our clothes as the sounds of coyotes echoed through the trees. We gathered at the ruins and listened to Keith Johnson relay the story of Peleg Walker and his tragic history at the old mill site.
During the 19th century a weaving mill flourished along the Ponagansett River in Foster. The mill was owned by a gentleman named William Potter. Mr potter and his sons ran the millworks during the day and extended a partnership to Peleg Walker. Peleg completed night watchman duties, until he became disgruntled with his position.
The relationship between Peleg Walker and William Potter soured. Reportedly, Peleg bellowed the threat, "You will have to remove these keys from a dead mans hand!" The keys allowed Peleg entry to the mill so he could observe the grounds and toll the call bell for those to come to work in the early morning.
Shortly after this threat, Peleg comitted suicide. His body was found hanging in the bell tower of the mill. His spirit was believed to haunt the mill as workers reported odd dusturbances such as the bell tolling itself, the water wheel spinning in the opposite direction and voices calling from empty hallways. Attempts to thwart the paranormal activity were ineffective as the sound of a bell tolling could be heard even after the bell was removed from the mill. Eventually, workers abandoned the mill site and it became defunct.
Today, the mill stands in ruins. Small bits of foundation remain intact in the secluded area. Wheelbits, iron casts and wood strips can be found along the perimeter of the old foundation.
The night of July 2006, paranrmal activity was reported by members of our investigating crew. Two members including Rob reported feeling a significant and persistant tug on the sleeve of their shirts by invisible hands. Rob and I captured a couple of EVPs which are located below. The first EVP is a reversal as a voice clearly not ours is observed speaking gibberish until it is reversed. Astonishingly, the EVP relates "Peleg Walker is dead!". The other EVPs are self explanatory. We hope you enjoyed our paranormal tale.

Being a Hospice Nurse I have witnessed many spiritual and miraculous events during the most personal time of our lives, our journey home to the Lord. This particular incident I am about to recount is true with names and certain details obscured for privacy.
Martha was 79 years old when she was told by her doctors there was no more options left to battle her disease. The war was lost and her life would soon be over. She faced the cancer that riddled her body with courageous dignity. Every day that I spent with her, Martha shared intimate details of her life, her loves and her regrets. Her gray blue eyes, dull with the mask of disease would manage to brighten as she spoke of her husband Ed and the amazing relationship they shared for the past 60 years. Ed was her caretaker and held her as she took her last breath. He was the one who gave her morphine to soothe the pain and gave her permission to be free from the chains of her diseased body and go home to the Lord.
Prior to Martha's journey home, she spoke of another love in her life. Her grandson Martin was 29 years old when he took his own life. They were very close and she was devastated by the loss. He had left her with so many questions, feelings of guilt, why couldn't she have seen where he was headed? Why couldn't she have stopped him? Guilt, shame and immense loss filled the rest of the years she spent without him in her life.
One morning I arrived to assess Martha. She was sitting at her kitchen table when I arrived. As she sat picking at a piece of toast and sipping her coffee, she shared a revelation. The night before, she awoke as she normally did. The morphine had worn off and it was time for another dose. As she lay there, contemplating the condition of her health and feeling frightened by the path that lay ahead of her, she closed her eyes. When Martha opened her eyes again to turn on the light, she heard a familar voice at the foot of her bed...
"It's me grandma." Martha's eyes filled with tears as she related seeing the image of her grandson Martin standing at the foot of her bed. She said he called to her again until she managed to make eye contact with him. "Im ok grandma. Im in a better place now and so will you be soon. I will be with you." The image of her grandson faded away and soon she found herself alone with her husband sleeping beside her.
Two days later, Martha slipped into a coma and quietly passed away. After the visitation from her grandson Martha was filled with peace. Her fears faded away and the journey home came quicker than anyone expected.
Ed continues to struggle with the loss of his wife. "She always looked beautiful and I never minded looking," is how he best describes their life together. Though he misses her terribly he is reassured knowing she is waiting for him with their grandson.
Some may say it was the stress of the disease, others may say it was side effects of the meds used to control her pain that caused Martha to see her grandson. A delusion, halloucination, delirium... Ed believes it was his grandson. I believe Martha died knowing she was going to be with her grandson again. No matter what, a gift of mercy arrived in the form of Martin. ... there have been many similar incidents which I will share later.PLease feel free to recount some personal experiences if you have any to share... God Bless.. Amie
