Room 24 / 26 (Shell / Gunpowder Rooms) & tunnels

Started in room 24, all quiet.  The 2 lads (Andrew & Stuart – Almost Haunted) tried standing in the corridor immediately outside room, they said they didn’t detect anything – apart from the water driping in the tunnels.
The 3 girls Becky, Tanya & Me wondered down the tunnel with the guide Keiran to another room – where he left us alone; we were only there for a few minutes but it was feeling fine so I suggested we try spacing ourselves individually along the tunnel to see if could get anything.

Tanya was down the tunnel near the room with boys Becky stood about 6/7 meters down the tunnel towards me and near the exit then I was standing furthest down the tunnel about 10 meters away from Becky just past a room with plane wreckage in it.  Incidentally I stood outside the wreckage room for a couple of minutes and heard a few coughing/ sniffing noises so I hastily walked further down the tunnel away from it.
After about 10 minutes both Becky and me heard a whistle that came from somewhere between us none of the rest of the group heard it and it seemed near to the wreckage room door.

About 5 of so minutes later I started to hear some muffled thumping noises; I didn’t say what I could hear just ask if anyone else could hear any thing – answer was no from all of them.  Becky asked a few mins later if my stomach was rumbling – it wasn’t but she had been hearing a similar noise for some time.  It seemed to be emanating from the same room again.
During the most of the time I was in the position in the tunnel I could constantly hear the same thumping noise – eventually the guide joined me and asked what I could hear – what I could hear sounded like a combination of distant marching on the spot and banging on a wall like some one trying to get out; all of which I could hear directly in front of me in an adjoining room which also contained wreckage. Kieran confirmed that this is a known phenomena in this area of the tunnels.

Becky joined keiran and me after a few mins and I decided to call out and ask for the same noises – nothing.  So I imitated the noises and asked for spirit to copy me – nothing I did this 3 times and no response. So I tried again – this time both Becky and Kieran hear the noise further down the tunnel away from everyone else. I asked again and there was no response.

Time was up and we were all just about to leave the tunnels when we all heard a loud cough that seemed to come from in front of us, queue me shouting ‘anyone there?’ and speeding off down the tunnels to investigate.  Why the hell I decided to head off in front of the group alone I have no idea!!! We were unable to find the source of this cough as the nearest group to us were already in the tearoom and they denied making any noises.

Theatre Room & adjoining Open areas

When in here the guide was giving a brief explanation on what these ‘open’ type rooms were used for.  While he was talking there was a metallic ping sound that seemed to come from theatre room next door (there was only a wooden trellis screen separating it from the area we were in).  Upon advise from Angie we decided to ignore this noise and carry on.  After another of the metallic pings, a dragging type noise and a faint thud we decided to try in the theatre room next door as none of activity seemed to be in the ‘open rooms’

In the theatre we decided to do some glasswork Becky, Jade, Carole, Dan & Gareth around the table; I decided to watch standing to the side & the guide Simon sat on the stage.  I started asking questions and the glass wouldn’t move so Simon asked some and it started moving – I would ask and it would stop!  Carole then asked questions and 2 children and young boy of 10 and an older sister around 17/18. During this time I heard what sounded like running across the stage- jade looked confused and I asked her what was wrong – she explained she heard a noise on the stage, which I confirmed, and Simon also heard.
Simon saw a flash of light move across the ceiling.
Becky felt as if some one moved her chair twice – it really jerked as I heard it and saw her reaction. At one point everyone at the table all looked up and turned to the door simultaneously – I asked them what was wrong as they had all moved at the same time to the same point – they had all seen something out of the corner of their eyes and turned…. Coincidence?  No-one of the group had realised the others had turned until I mentioned it!

A grump man took over the glass from the children and he refused to talk to me – Simon said that he needs pushing for answers but I had to bite my tongue or I would have just provoked him – some thing Simon told me under any circumstances I was not allowed to do.

Jade started becoming distressed and started feeling sick.  Her mum Carole & me went to her and I could feel heat literally radiating off her before they even touched her.  The guide asked us if any us felt cold, to which Becky replied instantly with ‘yes’.  He took Jade out to recover. This is apparently a regular occurrence but I suspect that Jade was getting scared of the glasswork and freaked out.

After the others had gone back to the tearoom Becky & me chatted to Simon. He informed us that he has had countless different groups in that room and every time they all pick up on there being two children (brother and sister) the boy being around 10yrs old and the girl a fair bit older. Apparently every time they come first and then they disappear to be replaced (or chased away) by the grumpy man.

Latrines

All the girls in the group (Becky, 2 guides & me) became very jumpy very fast in this area.  After a few mins we decided on silence and to relax after a few minutes one of the guides both of the guides said that they could see a shadow in the arch towards the exit.  I was sitting to the left of the group with another arch beside me – it just felt like there was someone watching us from there. After a few more mins me and Mel (guide) both heard a very sigh from the arch next to me.

We moved to the next part of the area (all the girls linked arms and holding on for dear life!!) I sat on the end again next to same arch – after about 5 mins it was like some one walked right up to me and blew really stale bad breathe in my face – from the side where no one else was! It happened 3 times untl I buried my face into Mel’s coat.  But when I decided to be brave and sit up again I had the smell wafted into my face again – it was very unpleasent.

Mel suggested calling out a specific name – I had a name in my head – Jake but this was not it – however Becky had thought it was Harry and she was correct; and a bit freaked!

We tried getting a response by letting the American army chap call out and address Harry as soldier to soldier, (especially an American soldier addressing a British soldier – apparently severely frowned upon back then!) but didn’t get any thing.

Quadrant

After leaving the latrines we made a quick stop at the courtyard.
I have to admit that I never feel “watched” at locations… but standing here I felt very venerable and very watched!

Tea-Room

Once back in the tearoom we were deciding to try and squeeze in one last area before time was up.  Richards fancy EMF reader went up to the max reading and my walkie-talkie went bananas bleeping like crazy!  I turned it off and dropped it on the table yet it continued!  Richard tried to find the source but was unable to.

Light Tunnel

9 of us headed off for one last vigil.  Going down a really long narrow corridor, we came to a small room with chairs and a table which we sat around (where MH did there séances/ table tipping.  Tansy said there were footsteps in the tunnel behind us but no one else heard this.

Over all I loved this location and would love to go back.  Several unusual things happened here and I would like to explore better.  It’s a massive location – I did have a queasy sensation in my stomach throughout the night in the tunnels only but I put it down to vibration from the Thames or ultrasound
