Charging A Fee To Investigate
Posted On: 01/24/2008 17:59:23

I know the bigger places like Waverly Hills and Bobby Mackey's charges a fee to investigate there, But what if all haunted locations charged a fee to walk in the door, would you still pay? I was just wondering out loud.

I want to see the place first before paying for the right to hunt ghosts.

You also need to look at that alot of these places were purchased for back taxes or whever. But your right is depends on what it is. But you wouldnt just let anyone/group in your home would you? Well the paysites any group can get in not just the ones with there own tv show. It creates more locations for people to go. I dont think the TAPS people are to blame. If anything they brought more places for groups to go.

I feel the same way Vicky, I would never charge anyone to investigate my home. I was just wondering out loud.

Depends on the places and the fee.  I just paid $5 to tour a haunted theater for two hours and the tour was just to promote the restoration of the theater.  Other places I don't know that I would pay.

TAPS has kind of hurt the rest of us.  Places that ordinarily would welcome us, now simply see us as ka-ching on the cash register.  We don't have the funding to ""persuade" places to let us in.  The TV shows make "contributions" in one form or another.  Perhaps cash, perhaps publicity.  Either way, when this craze blows over and some people have to start putting in toilets again, the supply will increase and the demand will go down.  Then we can get in.

Depends, on what they offer.  If they want 100 bucks a person for 30 minutes, I ain't buying.  If, it's a bed and breakfast, and I'm staying there, I would pay.  Everytime I go to a conference or investigation it's a vacation for me.  I'm out doing the things I love to do.  It's like the guy who goes to golf resorts for vacation and plays the whole time he's there.  Some think it's a waste of time (I'm not patient enough to golf), while others get enjoyment out of it.

BTW..........went to a conference at Waverly, it was worth every penny.

This exact thing was brought up on another site forum. It involved the Myrtles Plantation. I can understand places like that because it is a B&B and that is their business.

However, they do charge astronomical prices for people wanting to investigate. You can even rent Lizzie Bordens for investigations too. But these high profile places are expensive. I guess everyone sees the opportunity to make a buck. But you can't fault someone for renting their property for what ever.

I would rent a place if it had history but not to just ghost hunt.
