Bad EVPs and the people whom record them...
Posted On: 09/03/2008 19:24:38

It's funny, when I was 19, I used a Panasonic cassette recorder to see if I could pick up anything as I slept.

Now that is over branded as "EVP", it isn't an EVP unless you get something. Right?

Now isn't it an EVP when:

1) You didn't hear it during the session, but it is on the tape.
2) You heard it during the session, but it didn't record on the tape?

I think People are confusing what is truly a "Voice phenomenon".

LOW Q:
People are also getting recording encoded into Shoddy Low-Q MP3's that distort and "flange" the sound that may have been picked up. (hence the Flanger/phaser FX, toilet gurgling and stomach noises more)

I NEVER heard those as I recall when people used tape.
Tape hiss, and mechanism noise if you used the built in MIC.

Grant it I am no EVP expert, nor do I claim to be. I have done some audio engineering work for video games TV and radio work, and own 9 programmable music synthesizers keyboards. (ADSR shaping) I also have had my share of Studio experience, and live sound stage was my forte' since before my first rock band even.  But this still does not make me an "EVP expert", a sound engineer at best.

Let's face it, It isn't hard to hold out ones arm and try to provoke a spirit.
I wonder why people who got results on an Ouija Board were not referred to as "OUIJA BOARD EXPERTS"? I call them haunted myself.
As this might make them 'special" it doesn't make them an "Expert".

Some are purely lucky SOBs let's face it.
(Some, however, are considered not so lucky, they don't like the voices coming in at will.)

The real expert comes in using the right equipment and cleaning the signal up, recognizing real paranormal captures.

If you listen to the noise for an extended period of time you might start to pick out voices no one else hears. This is a sort of sensitivity training. A bit like that in the way speculum has it's mirror gazing... Occultist train themselves to read your future looking into a cup of tea. One might hear what we don't.  Which brings me to another point, as in 'when does EVP recording stop being "science", and begin to begin to be more like an Occult practice'?

Anywoo- unless EVERYONE hears it, it isn't in my opinion a valid EVP wortyh sharing. Anymore than the latest dust particle is a ghostly ORB.

It really isn't a an EVP worth mentioning if
no one else can hear it or understand it.

Or else we are talking
more about it like a "sensitive" can see things, feel things others
can't. The recording itself isn't evidence. In other words you stare
into the TV screen and start seeing spirits, doesn't mean they are
there. Just that you 'sensitized' you self some how, at best to see
thing others can't see. You wouldn't take that TV to lectures and play
it and say:

"watch closely" and expect people to see what you see.

Then it is also something where it is hard to say when 'imagination' comes in on EVPs you have to strain
hard to try to pull out.  goes with seeing the Bless Virgin Mary on a tortilla Chip or a demon face in wood grain pattern. Look for anything hard enough and at at some point you may think you found it. Regardless if or not other can attest to what you are seeing or hearing.

YEAAAAAAAAA nitewing you are so right on....  I too agree with you all the time, I feel a class a is just important as a class c .  You know me I do send you stuff just to make sure I am hearing the right stuff and yes most of the time you tell me I am correct.  I know it is much harder to pull these up and wonder why at the same time.  I just feel that someone out there wants to say something and it is up to me to hear it

That is a very perceptive outlook.  On the otherhand, if you go to a doctor and have an X-ray taken, can you read it?  Probably not.  You have to rely on his expertise.  It is a subjective finding when a doctor looks at an X-ray.  Would your doctor say "These X-rays are useless.  Go home and take two aspirin. "  Those who capture EVP may also have to rely on others who have learned to understand it.  As for bad quality EVPs, would an emergency telephone call from your mother be unacceptable if a lightning storm interupted the conversation or would you try to understand it?  Low quality EVPs are no less important than those that come in clearly.  Why do people say an orb is always a spirit but a low quality EVP is always RF interference?  It is a double standard because they have not spent the time to learn how to listen to EVPs.  Everytime I attempt to teach someone, I tell them they must listen to hundreds, even thousands on the web to begin to interpret what others cannot.  ^v^

How do you know a spirit can only produce one evp on a recorder at a time?

You know, I always heard that if you catch it on 2 recorders, it isn't an EVP either.  Something about a spirit only being able to produce it on one recorder at a time.  So then, if it's a sound you hear with your ears and is picked up on a recorder, is that just a disembodied voice caught on a recorder and not an EVP?

Now my head hurts.

Personally, if it isn't as clear as recording a living person talking................... it ain't worth it.

There are still issues with the inboxes. I'll get on it tomorrow and see if I can't figure out what the problem is. I apologize for any unusual things that may occur during this time. Maybe we really are haunted!?
