Gatlinburg trip
Posted On: 10/28/2007 23:54:00

It was a wonderful trip all around but the highlight was Friday night when we went on the Ghost Walk of Gatlinburg!  I must admit that the tour itself was entertaining but not necessarily completely accurate, but they don't claim to be either.  We were lucky enough to have a tour guide named Tyler.  I highly recommend asking if he's giving any tours on your desired date and request his tour!  We started out in the oldest cemetery in Gatlinburg (White Oak Flats Cemetery) which was originally named White Oak Flats and later changed to Gatlinburg.  There we got a bit of a history lesson on the founding families.  Next we went to a parking lot where we got a bit of history about the first pizza place in Gatlinburg that was there before Dollywood when it was still a very small and sparsely populated town.  There is a legend of insane amounts of paranormal activity there and that proved to be good for business, but bad for the owners who couldn't find anyone who would be willing to work for them!  This pizza place stood adjacent to what is left of the cemetery and the story goes that they demolished part of the cemetery to build.  I snapped a couple photos there but didn't get anything unusual in them.    From there we went on to an abandoned hotel, and then a spot by the Pigeon River where we got a lesson on how they used to determine if someone was a witch or not and told a few other ghost stories.  There was a pretty freaky one that ensured that I will NEVER take the elevator to the top of the space needle there!!

The best part of our tour though came after it was ended.  Tyler and I got into quite a conversation about ghost hunting and theories involving things that people consider paranormal.  He spent an hour and a half talking with my hubby and I about his personal experiences and some very interesting places in and around Sevier County, Tennessee.  All in all it was a fantastic experience.  I can't wait to go back to the Gatlinburg area with some equipment and some friends and check out the places that he wasn't "allowed to talk about" on the tour!!!

From the Desk of IAH:
I am thinking of starting a free banner exchange for anyone with a paranormal website. If you think this is a good idea then let me know. If there is enough interest I'd start it up.
