Update on The Badu House
Posted On: 05/16/2008 10:31:33
Well, the digital audio setup at The Badu House did not show any evps from Mother's Day. Believing all was quiet, the staff conducted business as usual. Then, when one of the servers was upstairs, he heard a male voice call out "Hello?" Believing this to be the voice of the restaurant's manager, the server replied: "Hello?" There was no answer. Confused, the server walked down the stairs and discovered the manager in the doorway listening to the band and the rest of the staff in the dining rooms, assisting customers. One of the customers--the grandmother of an employee--informed the manager that she is a sensitive and that she was leaving the building because "the house was very active" and it gave her a headache. "Maybe we are all just nuts," the manager told me in an email, and I must disagree. They have already gathered far too much evidence to support their claims. The Badu House is, indeed, a very spooky house.

Sometimes I wonder if perhaps it is important for people who know, in their hearts, that ghosts exist, to offer comfort and reassurance to those who are experiencing a haunting and questioning their own logic and reasoning. I believe Thunder asked a very important question: why would someone question the existence of ghosts with so much evidence available? I suspect it has to do with our human fear of being ridiculed. There are so many people out there who do not believe it's enough to be skeptical, they believe they have to laugh at or embarrass those who believe differently, if that makes sense. And when you think about it, those who make fun of people who believe in ghosts are acting on thier own insecurities and fear of ridicule. It would be nice if, as humans, we were all comfortable simply accepting that we don't have all the answers. Mysteries are far more interesting than textbooks.

Well, having some disembodied voice call out to you when you are all alone in an upstairs room has got to be unnerving, to say the least, and therefore, I find it hard to believe that that person would just have imagined, providing he doesn't suffer from some king of psychosis.

I agree that the manager probably suspects, but can't come to actually admit that the place is haunted.  To admit it means to have to face and deal with it, something he doesn't seem like he wants to do.  But as evidence keeps piling up (and from the activity level of the place that you mentioned) he's probably not going to have a choice.

On the other hand, he could embrace it and use it to drum up more exposure (and therefore, business) for his establishment.

Well, oddly enough, I hear that often from people who believe they've seen a ghost. You've never heard that before? The manager is not a ghost hunter, researcher, or expert in anyway, and like any other person who has had experiences of this sort, I'm sure he's questioned himself many times. In this case, however, there are quite a few people who have had experiences in the building.  I listened to the earlier evps myself when I first visited the restaurant and I'm convinced. He's certainly had plenty of experts tell him it's haunted.

I wonder why the manager would say that if so much evidence has been gathered? It is interesting to read about the grandmother and her experience.
