Cycles

I have been finding that as I get closer to graduation more and more frequently people that I have lost contact with over the years for one reason or another seem to be falling out of the woodwork in order to track me down  and attempt to reenter my life.

On one level it is fascinating to hear about these people's accomplishments and their trials. But on another level I am concerned that by allowing these people back into my life I will be sucked back into ways of operating that I have been trying to eliminate in my life over the intervening years since I last was in contact with these people, chief amongst these issues is the fact that for a large majority of these people I was the one "footing the bill" every time we went out and did something.

Oh well time will tell I guess if I am making the right decisions in this weird situation.

random ponderings

we did an investigation a few weeks ago, and I am going back through the video footage that I took for it to polish my notes a bit before I turn in the hard copy for our archives and there is something on the footage that keeps bugging me.

the camcorder like most has an auto focus feature on it that keeps being tripped durring the investigation. There is nothing in the shots that should cause an auto focus to happen durring a steady pan or even when holding the unit still. I'm at a loss on this one especially as others who have used the unit before have never noticed or reported this phenomenon.

Any one have any ideas?

Friends coming and going

Ok, I know that with the end of each semester the probability is there that someone you know is going to be leaving  through one of the common routes of graduation, transfer, failing out, or dropping out. This semester it seems that there is a larger then normal contingency of people leaving campus that I associate with then normal. Usually there is only one or two that leave the school in the end of the fall semester that I associate with, but this year I know of at least 6 that wont be back that knew about not being here in January  at the start of the semester. It will be interesting seeing how many aren't back that were planning on being here. I wish them all well and good luck in their endeavors after they leave here!

family weekend
Posted On 10/21/2007 00:12:27
Every year the university here hosts a weekend for family and friends of NMU students to come up and enjoy special events, and every year I have unfortunately never had any of my family come up to see me durring this weekend. This year has been no exception to the rule, and I have been missing them. Being single really doesnt help matters either as I dont have someone to spend time with that I am close enough to, that I could consider as an equal value to family

stupid people

ok, here is a question: How does one strip religion out of a subject that is as deeply entrenched in religion (regardless of the brand of religion) as the study of the spirit world is even if you are examining it from a scientific perspective?

The reason I am asking this question is because I was yelled at for passing along a note of warm holiday wishes for the Sabbat of Mabon, which is a harvest festival in the Celtic calendar, and for bringing in "religion" to the conversations of paranormal research. As our focus is exclusively on hauntings and other spiritual manifestations, not bringing in a balanced discussion in my mind is a reprehensible oversite.

Rain does wonders

I havent been in a decent rain storm in ages. I had forgotten how refreshing and cleansing it can be to spend time soaking ones self in a storm. Having said that, I had the opportuinity to go do just that this evening in the storms that were rolling through the area. I also had the pleasure of introducing the concept to a couple of freshmen here at school who had never experienced the clensing qualities of rain. all in all it was a good day

hmm looks like I mis-spoke

well as the first day of classes looms ever nearer on the horrizon it will be interesting to see how things go in my classes this term. I already know how much the books are going to cost me and as usual both of my history Classes have 3 books I have to get and my English course has something like 5 books (odd considering this is an oral literary tradition class studying First Nations oral literature). Some how though, even with 12 books, I'm only going to be spending just over $200.00 in books. Yay more $$ in my pocket!!
