payment for investigations??
Posted On 07/21/2008 22:17:20
Hey folks...so I am wondering about this more and more...I just don't follow people rationales for doing every case pro bono... I heard grant of GH refer to it as people being able to call the police or fire dept.  but that isn't an equal reference. Both of these get paid...they are not volunteer positions and they are all paid by us thru taxes... I can't think of any service that is 100% free. Maybe sliding scale so Everyone can get help and teams can always opt to help someone free of charge based on individual circumstances. But this is an expensive venue. It is very time consuming...the investigations them selves is just a small portion of the time put into the business. Do I think its a huge money maker? No I think investigation fees need to be reasonable...like anything else demand will set the price. But I firmly believe that treating this as a true business only gives it more credence and validity. It also would make some folks think twice before having a team out so they can see if they can 'fool' them and waste everyones very valuable time..Also and very importantly it would aid folks being able to remain in the field more. Spare time is too precious. Being able to commit long term regardless how much you want to support the field, simply becomes very difficult for many who start out. People can't afford to keep the team going without support. Its goofy to simply rely on donations...we all no how much that helps out the bottom line. I just think that there are a hole lot of folks who have had to leave the field simply because of financial loads that became unmanagable, They remain as dedicated but just can't keep it going... And frankly time is valuable for each of us. There is a lot of work put into each investigation not to mention all the background work that clients don't see. trainings, flights/travel to seminars, new equipment, websites, the list goes on.... It is just beyond me why this is separated fro anything else.. If we ourselves continue to separate the paranormal field from mainstream venues in this way, how can we ever expect others to accept it? Just because this is not yet 'scientifically proven' does not lessen the degree of work entailed. If the clients have an understanding of what investigations are capable of providing and what they are not capable of, then it remains on the up and up and a very professional and honorable way to carry out the service.... these are my thoughts now lets hear a few of yours....
