Fort Mifflin
Posted On 04/06/2008 10:46:59

It's been awhile since I have gotten the chance to write.  I sincerely appreciate all of the adds and nice comments that everyone has left.

2 weeks ago, I got the chance to investigate Ft. Mifflin after dark.  It was a fantastic experience.  Having been a sailor, it was a great experience to explore this fascinating place with fervor.

My only disapointment was that casement #11 (made famous by the TAPS season premiere) was closed to all.  Wooden boards restrict anyone from entering there.

Our group, the Coal Region Ghost Hunters, had organized this.  Unfortunately, we were only able to book a weeknight, so not all of the members were able to go.  But, we did get to put new member, Bob Schaeffer, to the test.  In addition to myself and 4 others from the group, my dad, brother and nephew (a jr member) were present.

I am still working on the investigative report for CRGH, but I must say that the personal experiences we had will not be forgotten.  It was definitely the most active place we have been to in a long time.

My father, who brought my nephew, was only there as a driver and had no intention of seeing or experiencing anything.  Well, needless to day, he became a believer that night.  While doing an EVP session with my brother and nephew in one of the casemates, he was touched on the arm.

Several people, myself included, saw the shadow soldiers, still manning their posts 200+ years later.  We heard an audible whistle in the room with us inside the officers quarters and I got the most interesting EVP I had ever recorded.

I left one of my digital recorders in the torpedo casemate.  It's reported to be haunted, but does not have the activity like the other casemates have.  I had that "gut" feeling that this would be a good place to put the recorder.

Well, at a time that everyone was accounted for, my audio recorder picked up a bit of history.  We were able to hear someone barking orders.  Afterwards we heard a thumping and then the claking of metal.

Although getting a class a evp from an intelligent presence is always exciting, getting to hear this residual playback was my highlight!  As a ghosthunter and history buff (particularly military history), I was in awe.

A big thanks goes to Wayne  and Lorraine Irby, the site managers, who were gracious in their hospitality.  I really give a big hug and thanks to Lorraine!  She opened the gift shop at 0100 hrs to allow us to get a couple souvenirs for the kids.  She is a sweetheart!!!

BTW, the gift shop, which was the quartermasters building, is a place that is not listed as haunted.  However, our group had 2 personal experience there and this is where TAPS saw the shadow walking in and out of the bathroom.

Til next time!!!

Thank You!

Thank you all for the friendly welcomes!  From all of the profiles I have seen , I was pleasantly surprised to see that everyone I saw were from serious paranormal investigators.

I have always had an interest in the paranormal and I began doing investigations in 1997.  Back then (sounds like such a long time!), all I had was a 35mm camera, a microcassette recorder and a handheld thermometer.  I couldn't imagine back then that I would be able to use the EMF meters, digital infrared thermometers, infrared camera and video capability, digital audio recorders and don't forget all of the software, like Adobe Audition.

Again, I thank all of you who have been friendly and checked out my page!

From the Desk of IAH:
I am thinking of starting a free banner exchange for anyone with a paranormal website. If you think this is a good idea then let me know. If there is enough interest I'd start it up.
